SPORTS-ADVERTISING-INVESTMENTS / Over one million euro for the sports TV stations
Bucharest (MEDIA EXPRES) / July 17, 2008 / The launch of the new Romanian sports TV channel GSP TV makes the sports niche very disputed between the media groups in Romania, and also much more attractive for the advertising budgets.
The Romanian agency Brand Connection, quoted by the Romanian central press, estimates that, last year, the sports TV channels in Romania gathered advertising revenues which summed up to €700,000 - €1 million, net values.
In 2007, the advertising clients that invested the biggest budgets in promoting their products were, mainly, the ones in the beverages and telecommunications sectors. SAB Miller (Ursus), Coca-Cola, Quadrant Amroq Beverages, Brau Union, Vodafone, Orange, Cosmote, Procter&Gamble were amongst them.
The cable operators presently broadcast nine sports channels. Out of these nine, only four have their ratings measured, and these are: sport.ro, the sports channel with the biggest audience, part of the MediaPro group, followed by Eurosport, Telesport and Sport1. The new sports channel on the Romanian market, GSP TV, will also have its ratings measured. The channel is part of the Romanian media group Intact.
The most watched sports in the urban areas were, in the first six months of this year, handball, tennis and boxing – for the sports channels. The most watched sports on the generalist channels were football, boxing and the winter sports.
If until now, the sports niche didn’t even come close to the generalist TV channels from the audiences’ point of view, things might change for the better in the near future, with the football matches in the First League being broadcast by sports channel GSP TV, and not by a generalist station. (AC)
